Port of Tallinn back in 3rd place

State-owned Port of Tallinn announced it handled 31.6 million tons of cargo in 2009. This is 9% more than in 2008 and made it third largest port in the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea behind Primorsk and St. Petersburg, but ahead of Riga, Ventspils and Klaipeda.

By unaudited results, the company's profit for 2009 was 408 million kroons which is 2% or 9 million kroons less than in 2008.

On a positive tone, the company's revenues were up 8% to 1.27 billion kroons.

The company's loan burden stood at 2.6 billion kroons at the end of the year, an annual increase of 273 million kroons.

The ports that belong to Port of Tallinn served a record number of 7.26 million passengers. In spite of complex economic environment and falling consumption, the number of passengers remained in the 2008 level. While the number of regular ferry lines fell somewhat, the number of cruise passengers increased by 39,000 passengers to 416,605 passengers or by 10%.
