Subcontractor leaves Old Town hotel without fire alarm system
10.03.2010, 11:47Marsilius Ltd that belongs to businessman Alexander Kofkin and owns, among others, Meriton Garden Hotel, will be claiming damages from general contractor Celander Ehitus in connection with the dismantling and removal of a security system from hotel premises.
The installations were dismantled and removed by Onetor Ltd. that was a subcontractor in the project.
According to the law firm V. Kaasik & Co that represents Marsilius, representatives of Onetor came to the hotel on March 5 with the pretext of checking and servicing of alarm systems, but, instead, dismantled and removed the equipment.
Onetor explained later since Celander Ehitus owed them money, they had full right to dismantle the system that they had installed in the hotel.
According to the law firm, because Marsilius had paid all due amounts to the general contractor Celander Ehitus by February 4, 2010, it constitutes theft since Marsilius is not involved in debt relations between Celander Ehitus and Onetor.
Under the contract signed with Celander Ehitus, Marsilius is the owner of all equipment installed in the hotel. The company has already reported the theft to the police and will shortly submit a claim to the court for compensation of damages.
The incident means that Marsilius was forced to temporarily close down the hotel because it no longer complied with valid fire safety regulations. This has caused the company significant damages which would be claimed from both Celander Ehitus and Onetor.
