Austria supports Estonia as host of EU's IT agency
09.02.2010, 14:35Austrian foreign minister Michael Spindelegger expressed support, at his meeting with his Estonian counterpart Urmas Paet to Estonia as the possible location of the new EU IT agency, The Baltic Course wrote.
Paet discussed the Estonian candidacy to be the location of the EU justice an internal issues IT systems agency and Estonia’s plan to join the Eurozone.
“Considering the developed IT sector of Estonia we believe that Estonia has all prerequisites to be a good location for the agency to be created,” said Paet, adding that it is important to observe the 2003 European Council decision according to which the new EU agencies have to be located in new member states.
The Austrian foreign minister expressed hope tat Estonia will join the Eurozone at the beginning of next year.
Paet and Spindelegger noted also that the Baltic Sea and Danube strategy is a good prerequisite to creating a region that looks into the future and is competitive, out of the states of that region and of the whole EU.
Energy issues and the situation in Western Balkans were also discussed.
