Bomb threat against Estonian Air
09.02.2010, 10:26Estonian national carrier Estonian Air was forced to delay several flights yesterday after an unidentified person claimed last night that there were explosives in one of the company's aircraft. The incident has also caused the airline to make changes in its today's schedule, writes Delfi.
A representative of the rescue services said that the bomb threat was made at 6 pm yesterday. Law enforcement officers and rescue workers searched the planes in Tallinn and Tartu airports which forced the airline to delay several flights.
All people were evacuated from Tallinn Airport terminals and four Estonian Air planes were searched by the bomb squad of the rescue services. One aircraft was searched also in Tallinn.
In Vilnius the local rescue services searched the Estonian Air plan that had arrived from Tallinn.
No explosives were found during the search.
Because of the incident, Estonian Air evening flights from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, from Vilnius to Tallinn and from Tartu to Stockholm were delayed by at least 1.5 hours.
There may be changes also in today's flight timetable, said the airline, adding that no flight will be cancelled.
Estonian Air's press spokesperson Ilona Eskelinen said that she could not remember such extensive impact of at bomb threat in the history of Estonian Air. "Most recently, a year ago one passenger made a bomb joke and was taken off the plane," she said
